Is Your SEO Agency Transparent? Find Out Now!

Do You Even Know What Your SEO Agency Is Doing? Here’s How To Find Out…

When we meet with contractors to discuss websites and SEO, we always ask how things are going with the current (or previous) agency.

The answers are painfully consistent: “We don’t really know what they are doing.”

They know how much money they are paying. But what are they actually getting for that money? 95% of the time, it’s a total mystery.

Here’s a quick checklist of what they SHOULD be doing, and what you should DEMAND to see:

  • Content Plan: They should create a 12-month content plan that is updated every six months. This plan shows the number and kinds of content to be created each month, and specifies the geo-keyword pairs that are being targeted. If you don’t have a content plan, you are being ripped off. Period.
  • Quotable Leads: The only thing that matters is quotable leads. Your SEO agency should have a protocol designating all incoming leads (from phone, form, text, chat) as either quotable lead or not. Only about 45% to 55% of all incoming leads are quotable–don’t be fooled!
  • Tracking Dashboard: They should give you access to a dashboard that is updated in real time that tracks all important metrics, and shows you what is happening in PLAIN ENGLISH. The most important thing to be tracking is the number of quotable leads that are being produced from organic (SERP), Google Business Profile, PPC, and Google Guaranteed.
  • Monthly Meetings: In addition to your (always available) dashboard, you should be meeting with your SEO agency at least once per month. The purpose of the meeting is to review results, discuss any concerns you have, and strategically plan for the future. The meeting should be set in stone each month on the same date/time.
  • Optimization Plan: Every six months, your SEO team should pause all new content creation to focus on optimizing your plan. This includes a major technical audit of your entire site, detection and optimization of any under-performing content, integration of new/recent technical updates, and updating your content plan six additional months into the future.
  • Response Time & Escalation Protocol: One frustration we hear over and over is an inability to get a qualified agency representative to respond when you have questions or concerns about your account. If something IS wrong, your SEO agency should have an Escalation Plan to make sure that the problem is identified and fixed. During these crucial times, your agency should communicate with you multiple times a week until a complete resolution is attained.
